Hy friends!

It's been a while, but I'm really glad to be back, this time featuring a breathtaking place in Japan that is famous for  a good reason: Miyajima.

For those people who don't recognize the name, Miyajima means 'shrine island', and it is ranked as one of Japan's three most visited tourist places. It is also listed as a World Site Heritage, which is quite understandable, since (according to the Miyajima Tourist Association ) we are talking about a hundreds of years old shrine with an interesting history and rich culture of it's own.

Miyajima (宮島) is a small island less than an hour outside the city of  Hiroshima . It is most famous for its giant  orange gate (torii)  which at high tide seems to float on the water, just like the shrine's main buildings. The ...

I'm still alive!!

(What on earth am I doing here?)

Hy guys!

I could write pages about how sorry I am for disappearing for two months, but then again, I don't have the time for that, which is the exact same reason why I haven't been able to write normal posts. Of course, I am planning to catch up on what I haven't written yet, but ever since I came to Japan, I was either too busy, or by the time I found a spare hour, my mind became like a squeezed orange from speaking a foreign language all day.

To give you a brief image of what I was doing lately, let me describe an average week here: every day, I wake up around 6 AM, get dressed, eat breakfast, all the usual morning rituals. About 6:55 I leave the house and get on my bicycle, followed by a 25 minutes' ride up the mountain, to the Takamizu train station (this time of the year ...

First week in Japan (Part 2)

First week in Japan (Part 2)

Meeting my host-family, unpacking, first impressions

Alright, after a short break, here is the second part of my really awesome but equally tiring first week.

So when we arrived at Iwakuni airport, slightly shaking, we headed to the door, and that's pretty much the only thing I remember. Yasufumi Moriwaki fényképe.No, they did not knock us out our or anything, I just had so much adrenaline pumping in my veins I literally have no memories about what they said, or what I said for that matter. I do remember however how I was grinning like an idiot (a happy idiot) and how stupid I felt when they took pictures.

A small time skip here; my host-family (I will leave the 'host' from now on) and I got in the car, and started our ride to the house, it was little bit longer than 1 hour. We talked about this and that... well, my father did most of the talking, ...

Flying to Yamaguchi prefecture

(decoration at Iwakuni Airport)

Hi guys!

As promised, here's the next post of my Japan exchange year, this time featuring my first week, in at least two parts, since for some unknown reason the blog site  blocked  it as I was trying to post it in one peace. ^^"

First of all, how we got to our host-families. By 'us', I mean the exchange students who came to Yamaguchi-prefecture, 3 people in total, including me. It was quite funny at the orientation, watching all the students get in huge groups, like 20 people each, and our small Yamaguchi squad stood there looking lonely. But hey, I bet no one else had as much fun as we did! :D

Our little team was formed out of a kind and smart Finnish girl, a talkative Spanish guy, and a way too enthusiastic Hungarian (yeah, that's me). We ...

Arrival orientation

Arrival orientation

Hi guys!

It's been 5 days since I came to Japan (actually, I spent the first two days in the air or at no ones-land, meaning the airports) and finally I've got some time to write something for you.

So, I traveled from Hungary with another exchange student, therefore I wasn't completely alone, but still, it was nice to arrive at the orientation here in Japan, and meet the other students.

After taking off from Budapest, Hungary, we headed to Amsterdam, where we waited for like, 7 hours. At that point, I was so unbelievably bored, that I wanted to chew my own head off. Sadly I couldn't (and still can't) do that, so we just passed the time with staring at the Departures board, watching the Tokyo label crawl upwards very very slowly....
Eventually, we boarded a plane ( to ...

Before-travel orientation

Before-travel orientation

Hi guys! :)

It's been ages (almost one year, to be exact) since I wrote anything! It's partly because I had a major writers-block for a while, but mostly because there weren't any interesting news about me lately. Until now!

I have been accepted as an AFS exchange student to the program to Japan in 2017-2018, which I'm super happy about! So, as my trip is coming close (actually, it's the day after tomorrow), I thought I should give you all a little update.

So, all of the exchange students, including me, had a before-travel orientation on the 15th of July, which, just like the selection, was two days long. The meaning of this orientation was to prepare us for the trip ahead us, and make all the risky situations familiar to us. I don't plan to go into details, mostly because I ...

AFS exchange selection

AFS exchange selection

registering, programs before my interview

2.pngHello guys!
Apparently I managed not to mess up my selection last weekend, which is quite a relief after all. I spent the last 2 weeks panicking about those two days, and I'm so happy that instead of two days of my worst nightmares, it turned out to be super fun! :)
First of all, I hadn't had the opportunity to take photos, so this post will only have very few images. I could get some from their homepage or from google, but I don't want to use any pictures since I didn't ask for permission and so. If you are interested in AFS thought, you should check out their website or Facebook page, I will give you both links at the bottom! ^^

Let's talk about the AFS program itself a little bit too. The program I'm planing to go with, is a high school year in Japan from 2017 August to 2018 July. ...

AFS exchange student program

teaser

2.pngHy there!
I'm quite sure if I were to choose one moment, which may be lifechanging for me, it would be this second. I've just sent my application to an exchange program called AFS (I honestly don't know what it stands for, let me know if one of you figures it out... :-D [...] Update: It stands for American Field Service if I got it right this time!).
There will be an interview next weekend, on the 19th and 20th of November, 2016. I'm planning (keep the "planning" part in mind, yeah?) to make a detailed report about the whole thing, since I have only found one of those from Malaysia... So I thought, I might just write down my own experience...? :) As for now, my heart beats like crazy and I'm so excited I could scream! Cross your fingers for me please! :D

If someone is interested ...
